Charity Quilts

I am yet to make a full sized bed quilt but for some time I have wanted to make charity quilts to help those doing it tough. I haven't felt that my skills where up to it as I have only made children sized quilts and quillows and I still stitch in the ditch. My stash is growing but I have always needed to purchase supplies in order to complete a project. Our friends have recently had their first child - a baby girl named Olivia and I wanted to make her a quilt. Just as I finished the top a call came out on SCQuilters (my online quilting group) for scraps to make baby quilts. I offered to make a quilt and send it on as I had left overs! Olivia's quilt has prettier charm squares and they are all different but this quilt is made from stash so that makes it free doesn't it?

Anyone for Draughts?

I have been making Draught Boards or Checker Boards as presents this year and they have been a big hit. Charlotte, our social butterfly, gets invited to so many parties that it can get expensive. These don't cost that much to make (do take up my time) and they are a bit different. Wish I had been taking photos of them from the start! I found the jumbo pieces at "Crazy Clarkes" so I stocked up on them and now make a matching drawstring bag to hold the folded "board" and the pieces. Each time I made one, DH asked when would I be making one for us, so guess what he got for his birthday in May? Ta Dah........

My June Challenge so far......

So how have I been doing? Good and bad!

1. I have finished Russ's Checkerboard!
2. I haven't finished Chanel's Kindy Quilt - Poor Chanel, just needs the binding.
3. I have finished and posted off my Stocking for the SSCS Swap - Secret Sister Christmas Stocking Swap (photos following), I haven't received mine yet. Maybe today?
4. For my mum's birthday I made her a cushion that looks like a handbag - she loved it.
5. Russ's quilt - I have excelled! More than at least 3 blocks! I have now made 11 of the 12 required .
As for Charlotte's wallhanging and the hexagon project - no more progress!, BUT...
I have made two baby quilts -
One is for little Olivia, born 10 weeks premature, and the second is made from the scraps and is a charity quilt that is going to South Africa for a baby born HIV positive. I have basted Olivia's quilt, and I have quilted the charity quilt and am half way through sewing on the binding.

Here are the pictures of the Christmas stocking........

My June Challenge!

As we are well and truly into June, I thought if I was to challenge myself, I had better get down and do it before I run out of time!

1. Finish Russ's checker board
2. Finish Chanel's kindy quilt
3. SS Christmas Stocking
4. Something for my Mum's birthday June 20
5. At least 3 more blocks for Russ's quilt
6. Complete one block on my hexagon project
7. Another stitchery for Charlotte's wallhanging

Whew, if I accomplish ALL this I will be very happy. The first 4 are a must! If they are all done by mum's birthday then the last 3 are attainable as well.

Wish me luck!
