as the clean up continues, volunteers have been asked to wear work boots or gumboots as well as long pants to protect against bacteria in the toxic sludge. This has led to a state wide shortage of gum boots.

Oh dear - how sad that gum boots are an essential item. What a horrid mess I'm not sure I would have the strength to endure it.
