a cute blast from the past

miss paradise is 10.5 months old and tess the wonderdog must be pushing 3 and a half years. miss paradise turned 9 last week!

this was taken in our old house (we have been in our current house almost 7 years), and while neither ever touched the other they used to spend their time side by side.

First she sewed and now she cooks!

This is turning into a cooking blog! It is not supposed to be, but then we all need to eat and food is a big part of our lives so sometimes that is all that is going on around here!

Miss Paradise is always asking to 'help' when I am in the kitchen. Sometimes it is not really all that helpful, but I try to give her jobs to do. She had been at me to let her "cook dinner" so I took a cheats way out and we had a no cook pasta sauce. First off she used a really sharp knife to half the cherry tomatoes.

Then they were mixed in with some olive oil, crushed garlic and basil.

we put a good handful of baby spinach in the bottom of our serving bowl.

Boiled up some spaghetti,

and toasted some walnuts.

Mixed all but the walnuts together.

And served it with a slight grating of parmesan and a few walnuts in top.

Verdict? Really nice.

(Even better for lunch the next day!)

How clever are these kids?

If organising the SSCS international swap wasn't enough, the Chookster also organised a kids swap. I showed a sneak peak of what DD1 aka Miss Paradise made here.

Well now I can reveal the whole article. This is the needlecase she sent to Angel. This is the first thing she has ever sewn. The first time she has been near a sewing machine or ever made a yo-yo. I was very proud of her.

This is what she received from JessieGirl ........ These kids amaze me. The stitching is so neat and small and consistent. This is the front....

and the inside.

Thanks to all involved.

15 & 16

Finding it harder to keep up and find interesting things to photograph! Recharged my little camera this morning so I can take it with us more easily and not be so obvious when snapping away.

First up yesterday DD1 finished up her first sewing project for a kids swap organised by Chookyblue. She is feeling very proud of herself and just quietly so am I! Will show the whole project after Christmas.

Made a quick trip to the library yesterday because this was waiting for me on the holds shelf!

Our pesky little Reindeer, Meteor, is finding better and better places to hide and is harder to find in the mornings, but is spending more and more of the day sleeping off his night time adventures. Dolls cradle generously supplied by DD2.

This last shot appealed to me. We went to the beach today and someone who had already left had made these three castles, complete with foliage and a mote!

Hope your December days are treating you well.

a little bit of sewing going on....

But not by me!

DD1 (need to come up with a blog name for her, Mr Paradise is quite taken with his!) is taking part in her first swap, organised by Chookyblue for some blogger offspring. She is so excited by the idea, but just as quickly she walks away, so progress has been slow. Fortunately we are nearing the end as she needs to post off this week.
As for me, I am into papercraft again at the moment and have been making Christmas Cards. Weather here is so steamy, we are all enjoying the aircon.

life is just a scoot in the park

We are still here and just scooting along. Life got real busy all of a sudden. I have been sewing (shock), little bits of different things. Need to dust off the camera and take some photos.

It is hot here, and it is still officially winter. The temp was in the mid 30s today (celsius). Long weekend coming up for us. Looking forward to some down time.

Beach-a-thon

We got another gorgeous day this year for the recent school beach-a-thon.

This year DD2 joined DD1 and I. She was a little trooper. She walked the 6kms like it was something she did everyday, just so happy to be in with the 'big kids' (who have been edited out of the pic). Next year when she starts school she will only have to walk 2kms with her class!

DD1 on the other hand complained every step of the way....
"why do we have to have a beach-a-thon"
"when do we get a rest"
"how much further"
"do we have to walk ALL THAT WAY?"

For me it was Paradise. You can't beat the beach on a warm winter's day, and with my two girls for company..... priceless......

Bernice Bobs Her Hair

We went to a christening last Sunday and the church was on prime land in Brisbane overlooking the river. Here the girls are enjoying the view. It is also a good shot of their recent haircuts. According to our hairdresser bobs are in!

So who is Bernice? Lol, whenever someone mentions Hair and Bobs it reminds me of one of F.Scott Fitzgerald's short stories, "Bernice Bobs Her Hair"?

'I want you to bob my hair."
The barber's mouth slid somewhat open.
His cigarette dropped to the floor.
'Huh?'
'My hair - bob it!'

(Maybe I need to get out more!)

Mt Tamborine Botanical Gardens in Winter

I have always wanted to go up to the Botanical Gardens each season during a calendar year. Haven't managed it yet. But on Sunday we got up there for the first time ever in winter. Not a lot in flower BUT it is still beautiful. There were lots of "scarecrows". The girls and their friend where not too sure about them though.....

Cross Country.....

She didn't come first. She didn't come last. She lined up, ran her best and FINISHED. Can't ask for more than that.
